Museums x Pride

Dauer

Pride Month is a month of remembrance of queer people and the LGBTQ+ community and commemorates their history, culture and contributions to society. This month promotes self-affirmation and the dignity, equality and visibility of people belonging to this community.

We celebrate the diversity and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community. The diversity of our society - and therefore of those who work for us and those who might visit our museums - has many dimensions. Our museums strive to be places of inclusion and respect, where every person is welcome regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. They are places of encounter, inclusion and exchange, where we strive to overcome exclusionary tendencies and promote social cohesion through the cultural participation of as many social groups as possible. In this way, we want to do our part to enable legal equality, social acceptance and visibility.

Queer people are always welcomed in museums with pride and warmth, but the Provincial Museums want to send a signal, especially during this important month and from now on, and establish their position alongside LGBTQ+ people among visitors and staff. One of the actions with which we celebrate these people is the labelling of third toilets as ‘inclusive and gender neutral’. Another is to display the intersex inclusive Progress Pride flag on our facades, to symbolise the diversity and openness of our museums and the people who visit them. Our goal in museums is to practice gender-informed research, education and exhibitions. Together, we want to create a space that promotes respect, understanding and pride.

MUSEUMSxPRIDE means welcoming all people to our museums. We invite you to change your perspective!

Happy Pride!
